Department of Transport of Đồng Tháp province  is a specialized agency attached to Đồng Tháp Provincial People's Committee (PPC), who performs the function of advising and assisting the PPC in performing the State management on domestic roads and waterways; Carriage; Traffic Safety; To manage, operate, maintain and upgrade urban transport infrastructure, including road bridges, pavements, streets, separators, traffic signs, traffic lights, bus stations, parking spaces in Đồng Tháp province.

Đồng Tháp Department of Transport shall organize the performance of tasks and powers of the investment-deciding agency and investor for  projects on construction of transport infrastructure according to the provincial decentralization; To organize the management, maintenance, and guarantee of technical standards and regulations of the technical traffic work system of domestic roads and  waterways under its management or entrusted management; To apply methods for protecting the traffic safety corridors and transport works in the province in accordance with the current laws, the guidance of the Ministry of Transport and the specialized management state agencies;  In accordance with the current laws and its competence, to announce the closing and opening of domestic waterways of in the provincial area, of domestic waterway ports and wharves on local domestic waterways, special-use routes linked with local domestic waterways; To organize on granting the operation permits for ferries and quays to serve the river crossing passengers.

Đồng Tháp Department of Transport has its own legal status, office, seal and account; To submit to the direction and management of Đồng Tháp PPC on its organization, staff and activities; At the same time, under the direction, guidance, inspection and examination of the Ministry of Transport on its specialized work and professional operations.
