Sa Đéc city is a second-grade urban of Đồng Tháp province, covering an area of 59.5 km² with a low and flat terrain and an interlaced river system. The city has 9 administrative units and a population of 202,000 people (including the converted population).

In terms of convenient transportation system in both road and waterway (Tiền River, Sa Đéc River, National Route No.80, Provincial Road ĐT.848, ĐT.851, ĐT.852, ĐT 853,...) create favorable conditions for connection and development cooperation with other districts of the province. Sa Đéc city borders Lấp Vò district to the North; Lai Vung district to the West with the National Route No.80 extended with Lai Vung and Lấp Vò district, Long Xuyên city of An Giang province and other provinces; borders Châu Thành district to the South with the National Route No. 80 extended with Vĩnh Long city of Vĩnh Long province, connecting with the National Route No.1A to Hồ Chí Minh city and other provinces. Sa Đéc city also borders Cao Lãnh district and Tiền River to the East which is the navigable waterway of Mekong Delta.

Sa Đéc city is the land located between two rivers: Tiền and Hậu River, of which Tiền River flows through the inner city, Sa Đéc river is also another important river in the city.

Along with the above advantages, Sa Đéc city is one of four central cities of Mekong Delta under Prime Minister’s Decision, which is a transition area and an important traffic hub from Hồ Chí Minh city with provinces and cities of Mekong Delta and Cambodia. Therefore, the city has the capacity to develop industry – cottage industry, commercial – services, investment in real estate and financial business, credit, banking, insurance and development of tourism types that are eligible for quick access to science, technology, culture and information achievements in investment and development.
